oh crap. I read Star's post & followed along like a little sheep....posted self-disclosure comment under Satir...well, here'e my follow up... I also think you have to weigh amount of self disclosue with intimacy level. What I might disclose to a client i've been meeting with for 4 years is different from a client I've had a theraputic relationship with for only 2 months. Re: that woman who remembered each of my kids' names - it was a little freaky, the first time she pulled their names out of her hat...but now that I've been seeing the family for 7 months, it feels totally different. I can tell (maybe because I know here so much better now) that she remembers EVERYTHING. Her way to feel connected - mother to mother. Works for her, so works for me. :)
I agree with the comments that Starr and Julie made. I do feel like in certain situations and circumstances it can be helpful to use self-discloure especially if it is in an area where the client might be feeling stuck and doesn't think anyone understands what she/he is going through.
My comment is under the May Satir folder. I'll get the hang of this thing.
ReplyDeleteGreat Post Starr!
